We Salute You—
H.P.D. OFFICER ZANE HAMRICH

Nomination Letter:

Aloha, I could not find my original letter/story about Zane. So, here is what remember: I was driving from Kailua to Hawaii Kai and heard on the car radio about the Lex Brodie Above and Beyond Award for exceptionally brave Service people and instantly thought of Officer Zane Hamrick.

On October 15, 2006, the day of the earthquake in Hawaii, Zane was directing the traffic around a sinkhole by the bridge on the way to Lanikai. A young lady tried to drive around the hole when her car got stuck. I believe she called her father to come and help her then got out of her car to look at the situation. She quickly got sucked under by the gushing water. Officer Hamrick saw it happening, run to her and jumped into the hole and pushed
her back out. But then, he was in trouble. His heavy belt with all the equipment that is attached to it pulled him under the water and he almost drowned. Some of his fellow officers then got him out.

My family and I are very thankful to live in a community with such a nice Police Officer.
Zane is a very special person, always kind and caring. I would very much appreciate if you would consider him for this wonderful award. I truly
believe that he deserves it. With much aloha from Kailua,.

Thankfully yours,
Bettina
